Official Spokesperson of MoFA : Qatar Continues Mediation Efforts between USA, Iran

Doha, September 29, 2026 : Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari affirmed Tuesday that the State of Qatar continues its mediation efforts between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, working to bridge viewpoints and establish common ground between the two parties.

Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Solution

He emphasized Qatar's commitment, from day one, to the necessity of reaching a peaceful solution and its support for Pakistani-led mediation efforts.

Ongoing Meetings, Message Exchanges Between Parties

During the Ministry's weekly press briefing, Dr. Al Ansari said the past few days had seen a number of meetings and exchanges of messages between the parties, some held in New York during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, and others prior to that, noting that these efforts remain ongoing.

Qatar Condemns Targeting of Regional Infrastructure

On regional escalation, Dr. Al Ansari reiterated Qatar's strong condemnation of any targeting of regional infrastructure, stating that such attacks undermine the interests of the people and that the region's populations do not deserve to be drawn into this conflict. He stressed the need to respect infrastructure and facilities amid any escalation, describing threats to them as a violation of international law and the principle of good-neighborly relations.

Mediation Faces Obstacles, But Efforts Continue

Dr. Al Ansari said any agreement faces obstacles, and that mediation's role is to overcome these difficulties and bridge gaps between the parties, noting that discussions remain ongoing.

No Conflict Between GCC States and Iran, Al Ansari Says

On the possibility of non-aggression agreements between GCC states and Iran, Dr. Al Ansari said the countries of the region did not choose to be part of this war and have no conflict with Iran, noting that it was Iran that chose to strike regional countries as a result of its war with Israel and the United States. He urged Iranian officials to distance the region from the conflict, describing recent events as aggression against sovereign states.

Qatar Calls for Security Framework Based on Non-Aggression

He added that GCC states and other regional countries have long called for a dialogue-based solution, noting that Qatar continues to pursue peaceful coexistence with Iran despite having been targeted by an Iranian missile attack. He stressed the need for a security framework built on coexistence, non-aggression, and good-neighborly relations, beginning with an acknowledgment that regional states will not be targeted in future escalations. He said the current focus is on reaching a solution that restores freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz while addressing regional security concerns.

Qatar Engaged in Gaza's Second-Phase Transition

On Gaza, Dr. Al Ansari said Qatar has been engaged in the file since day one, noting that a meeting of eight Arab and Islamic nations was held in New York, alongside more than 12 ministerial-level meetings on the situation in Gaza and the Palestinian territories. He said Qatar has witnessed negotiations near breakthroughs on multiple occasions, only for progress to be reversed, citing repeated attempts by the Netanyahu government to undermine ceasefire efforts.

Warning Issued Over Developments in West Bank

Dr. Al Ansari also warned against developments in the West Bank, saying there are attempts to impose a new reality that contradicts the international consensus established since the Oslo Accords. He welcomed sanctions imposed by countries against settlement activity, stressing the need to redouble efforts to halt Israeli violations affecting the status quo in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Humanitarian Situation in Gaza Deteriorating

He noted that the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with challenges mounting daily. He said Qatar made its position clear at the UN General Assembly through the address delivered by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, reaffirming the centrality of the Palestinian cause, and pledged continued efforts alongside regional and international partners to support a political solution and the implementation of US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza.

Regional Economic Role Extends Beyond Energy

On the economic repercussions of regional developments, Dr. Al Ansari said countries in the region supply the world not only with energy but also with products essential to food security, petrochemicals, and aluminum, underscoring the region's broader significance to the global economy.
